Thula Ngonyama has been part of the Financial Services industry for a period of more than 15 years in different critical positions, whilst her experience in the corporate sector is short of 20 years.  She has had a great exposure to the international markets, having had an opportunity to work in projects in both in the Unites States and Leeds (UK).  She further has great experience and exposure in working with African markets, having spent part of her career in Standard Bank as part of the Rest of Africa holding different positions across different business units.

Thula brings wealth of knowledge in the information management and business analytics industry, also having worked as a head of Standard Bank Group Data Services and currently as a Head of Information Management and Customer Insights for PBB Rest of Africa. Especially from her currently responsibilities amongst other things, which includes strategy definition and execution for Business Analytics, Management Information and Information Management capabilities across the African continent for Standard Bank Rest of Africa PBB.

Thula is a philanthropist at heart, with much passion for women and young girls; having established the House of Pearls Foundation, an organisation that drives Women’s rights with much emphasis on young girls.The appropriate academic support in a form of a B com degree in Investment and Corporate Finance, Information Systems (University of Natal) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Qualification (Wits Business School) and completion of her course work of Masters in Development Management through Wits Business School gives her a strong foundation and basis required for her to confidently contribute, support and drive business strategy as deemed necessary. She also completed the GIBS-Erasmus University executive development program, which gave her exposure to the strategy and operations of European and East African banks.

Pieter Vorster,is the Chief Data Officer for Barclays Africa. His mandate is to build an advanced analytics and data science capability which enables, data driven, client led analytics in order to provide client valued insights which go beyond banking. His mandate extends across all business units as well as functional central capabilities, while overseeing Data Governance and Architecture across the Bank.

And before that Pieter was the Chief Analytics Officer for CIB Africa from 2015 to November 2016. The core focus of this role is to deliver data as a strategic asset through big data technology and data science practices. This role is also part of the Digital Executive team and CIB Africa extended leadership team.
Prior to this role Pieter was appointed as Head of Client Value Management for Corporate and Investment Banking in April 2012. In this role he was responsible for Client Insight, Client Solutions and Client Service (including Africa).

Before he joined CIB, Pieter held the position of Chief of Staff in the Office of the CEO and Deputy CEO at Absa Group, and GM Absa Home Loans and Pension Backed Lending. Prior to joining Absa in 2007, Pieter worked at Liberty Life as Director Strategic Partners and Director Bancassurance amongst other positions.

Pieter is a qualified Civil Engineer and CFP. He also holds an MBA from the University of Wales where his thesis was on building a predictive model for determining financial adviser success, development and recruitment practices.

Emmanuel Osanga, is the Regional Head Information Management, Standard Bank Rest of Africa. Emmanuel has a wealth of experience in the area of Data Management and Information Systems. Been extensively involved in several system implementations in the 15+ years of working experience enabling data capabilities across Africa in financial services Industry.

Information management expert and a data scientist with great business domain knowledge across the banking and microfinance service sector.Emmanuel is servant leadership and social entrepreneurship campaigner who has has lived and worked in Uganda, Nigeria and South Africa and continues to travel extensively across the African continent.He is a graduate of Makerere University in Uganda, Bachelors of Science honours degree Majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics and also completed classwork of Masters of Science in Computer Science.

Shepherd Mzinyathi is an entrepreneur. He holds the position of  CEO at Africa Data Forum and DataWeb Africa, an online IT, digital transformation, data science and analytics news portal. Mzinyathi  is also group CEO of Shepcon Group, a multidisciplinary organization that provides high quality turnkey solutions in IT, Infrastructure Development, Civil, Electrical, Telecommunications, Mechanical, Mining, Infrastructure Maintenance and Project Management Services. He is also a partner at FezBC, a Grade 7 CIDB organization within the infrastructure solutions sector. With over 10 years’ experience in business Mzinyathi has worked on a lot of big projects with the likes of COEGA, Department of Health, EMB Group, City Power, PRASA, Transnet and Eskom.

Bill Hoggarth, Director of Dataways. He has over 30 years of executive, general management and sales experience in the BI industry. He has lived and worked in several countries and cultures across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and has established and grown innovative businesses to positions of market leadership in many different markets, especially South Africa, but also in Europe, the Middle East, Nigeria, the SADC region and Egypt.
Hoggarth graduated in 1983 from Exeter University in the UK, with a BSc (honours) in Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics. He worked in the UK, Italy, Holland, and then France, before he settled in South Africa in 1996. He has been instrumental in growing companies such as BusinessObjects, Siebel and SAS Institute, and more recently, Dataways, to positions of market leadership.

A well-known figure in the local BI industry, Hoggarth appears regularly in the press and on the conference speaker circuit, and has an extensive network in both the public and private sector. Regarded by his peers as a visionary and his teams as an inspirational leader, his creative agility, strong presence and deep knowledge are backed up by boundless energy, balance and strong family values.

Hoggarth’s love for his family fills much of his time outside of work, and he also loves travelling and the African bush. He lists photography, reading and sports as his main hobbies, and is a keen follower of global trends and current events. He also served as director of Special Olympics South Africa from 2001-2004, and has regularly participated in World Economic Forum Summits on Africa and the Middle East.

Sibusiso Ngubeni, Head of Client Data Management for CIB Operations. The core focus of this role is to deliver data as a strategic asset through master, reference data management and data governance practices across geographies consisting of eighteen African countries.Before he joined Standard Bank, Sibusiso held the position of Head of Data Management and Governance in the Data Systems & Insights team at Barclays Africa Group. Prior to joining Barclays Africa in 2013, Sibusiso worked for Ernst & Young as Data Analytics Senior Manager.

Sibusiso is a seasoned developer, data practitioner and Information Technology specialist with strong business acumen. His 18 years’ experience and knowledge in data management through multiple disciplines across various industries has provided him with the foundation to support data led innovation throughout his career. He currently focuses on reconciling data management best practice to legislative and regulatory requirements whilst ensuring alignment with strategic business needs.

Jithoo Daya is an experienced entrepreneur and professional including EIM and BI practitioner, worked at General Management (Director) level within business and IT functions of organisations, able to lead  cross-functional (including cross geographical areas) engagements and ultimately delivery against client requirements; maintaining goal focused relationships to scope, propose, close, and deliver projects; accelerating growth/ development of service line within finance (banking & insurance), telecoms, and education.

He is passionate about Analytical CRM, Data Mining, Business Intelligence (including Customer Intelligence & Performance Management), Information Management, Data Science and IT in general. Having academic and professional experience in both the business and IT disciplines, Jithoo Daya enjoys playing a hybrid role between these.Jithoo has initiated, developed and implemented various strategic, operational and tactical BI, IM and KM projects & teams including the development of BI Centre of Excellences and Advanced Analytical models.

Educated in South Africa (UCT, UNISA, and WITS) a graduate in B.Sc (Computer Science), B.Com (Business Management, Industrial Psychology) and M.Com (Information Technology). He completed the GIBS course in Corporate Governance and Director Development. Jithoo is also a Professional Member of the Institute of IT Professionals South Africa (PMIITPSA)

Simphiwe Phakathi, is the Executive Head: Data Quality Management at Standard Bank Group with 13 years worth of Data & Analytics experience in the financial services industry. He is currently the Executive Head of Data Quality Management at Standard Bank Personal and Business Banking South Africa. This function forms part of the overall Information Management Capability within business in PBB. This function works hand in hand with the Customer Insights and Analytics capability for the bank to enable better actionable insights through the data science function in CIA.

During his banking career, Simphiwe has been exposed to a number of business disciplines such as Card, Merchant Services, Operational Risk, Financial Crime Control (Fraud), Measurement, Business Intelligence and Analytics all mainly focused on data which is fitting that he is now in the quality management discipline. He has been responsible for bringing together disparate teams as part of building a capability and help them focus on a similar goal and transition from a number of individuals to truly being one team.He is passionate about people and working with people and when you combine this asset with great data, the opportunities are endless

Karin Kruger, has 14 years worth of Data & Analytics as well as quantitative credit risk management experience. She is an Associate Director in KPMG Data & Analytics, a function which include all aspects of Data and Information Management, Big Data projects as well as a wide range of analytical projects ranging from reporting to prescriptive and adaptive modelling across Customer, Risk, Workforce and Performance analytics.During her banking career, Karin was responsible for customer analytics with her main focus being decision analytics where her activities included: customer segmentation, potential analysis, analytical marketing campaign construction, pre-emptive credit vetting, post campaign analytics, channel optimisation and next best product modelling.

She has also been involved in developing and maintaining various decision analytics systems and has delivered attrition models, retention models, propensity models and outcome based remuneration models. Karin has been part of regulatory reporting and analytics around the Customer Protection Act and the NCA as well as Basel Regulations.

Karin also headed up a credit risk function where she designed, developed, validated and implemented a full range of credit risk measurement methodologies including application and behaviour credit risk scorecards, affordability models, risk based pricing models, capital and provisioning models as well as collections optimisation models covering various unsecured lending portfolios.Karin’s experience exposed her to a variety of data and analytics methodologies and how to use analytics to gain business insight and drive strategy going forward.

Jacky Mampana, is a senior Manager responsible for the Business Analysis, Testing, Data Analysis, SME and BI (Sales and Distribution) functions, within the Data and Information Management unit of the Technology Centre of Excellence (Tech CoE). My role services the entire Liberty group (Stanlib, Liberty, Liberty Africa, Libfin) as well as some Standard bank projects.Jacky is a data and information management professional, with 12 years of experience. My experience with data spans various industries and sectors including academic research, banking, insurance, healthcare, manufacturing and government.

His area of specialisation is Business Analysis, System Analysis and Data Analytics mostly around Business Intelligence, Management Information Systems and Data Warehousing.He is currently based at Liberty, where I am the Head of Enabling Services, a department within the Data and Information Management function of the Technology Centre of Excellence.He holds a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, A diploma in Business Analysis (IT), a post grad certificate in Business Management and Economics and currently completing an MCom degree in Business Management

Amanda Dambuza, is the Chief Executive of Uyandiswa Project Management Services; a consulting firm she founded a few years ago. She is also the Financial Services Director for JSE listed organisation, Adapt IT. Adapt IT owns 49% of Uyandiswa.Prior to founding her own company Amanda had spent most of her over 15-year corporate career in the Financial Services industry particularly banking. She held various senior roles at all 4 major banks.
In her previous role as CIO for Enterprise Shared Services, Barclays Africa she drove a Change budget close to R1bn. This was spread across the 13 countries in Africa, including South Africa. Her clients were the most senior executives heading up the various Divisions. These were Finance, Compliance, Risk, Sourcing, Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Corporate Real Estate, Security, Internal Audit, Legal, Treasury and Barclays Shared Services.

She drove demand management, prioritization, execution as well as service management and support. She has led multiple teams locally and internationally to deliver all IT services to the Enterprise Shared Functions.Amanda is a Wits University and Duke Corporate Education graduate. She is also a certified PMP®, PRINCE2®, AGILE and ITILL practitioner which enables her to keep abreast of industry developments and continuous improvements.Amanda is a member of various boards and proudly seats as an Independent Director of an NPO called Donate-A-Piece whose aim is to take chess to disadvantaged schools and help to build children’s analytical and strategic capabilities. Amanda is a Wits University and Duke Corporate Education graduate.

Dario Fanucchi, is Technical Director at Isazi Consulting he was a lecturer of Applied Mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand, before fully committing to Isazi Consulting, one of South Africa’s leading data science companies. During his time as a lecturer, he moderated the Mathematics in Industry Study Group, where international academics were brought together to solve problems for selected companies. This proved to him that data science is instrumental in shaping Africa’s future, and it was this experience that inspired him and his co-founders to start Isazi Consulting. He is actively applying his expertise in algorithm design and machine learning in order to develop next-generation solutions at Isazi Consulting, where he leads a team of bright minds to create solutions for real-world problems in areas such as education, crime prevention and health.

Dika Modise, Manager (acting as Senior Manager) – Information Risk, Security & Compliance – ESKOM Management of IT Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, Compliance and Assurance, IT Change and Release Management, Information Security Management, IT Governance, ISO27001, Security Operations Centre, Incident Management and Backup and storage.Dika Modise has several professional qualifications i.e. CDCP, CISA, CISM, MBCI, CRISC and ITIL among others.

Dr. Vukosi Marivate is a Senior Data Scientist/Senior Researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR). He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Rutgers University, where he was Fulbright Science and Technology Award Fellow. He holds a MSc and BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Vukosi leads the Data Science team at the CSIR Modelling and Digital Science. The focus of the team is on Machine Learning, mining unstructured data to extract insights. The team develops different analytics models and platforms. From social media analytics, geo informatics to building models for better resource allocation and situational awareness. Vukosi has a keen interest in the use of data and development of Machine Learning algorithms to solve societal/public challenges. He is passionate about developing young people, supervises students, has interns and interacts with a lot of aspiring researchers.

Vukosi leads the CSIR’s Data Science Human Capacity Building program, Data Science for Impact and Decision Enablement (DSIDE). DSIDE takes in 3rd and 4th year students from a different disciplines, to train and take on different data related challenges from CSIR, Government and Industry. Vukosi has participated in the Open Government Partnership (OGPSA), working to encourage South African government departments to open up their data to the public, spurring on innovation and transparency.
